pROBLEMATIZING My IMAgine iT project
Curriculum...
My first dilemma for this project is about curriculum. As an IB teacher I have a large amount of advanced biology content to cover in fixed amount of time. My students are also taking six other IB courses, each of which assigns large amounts of work for the students to balance. My dilemma is about how to have my students complete an in-depth exploration about statistics without overwhelming them with another project. A way for me to address this dilemma would be to make it an in-class assignment that will not add significantly to their homework load.
Students...
My second dilemma for this project has to do with my students’ varied math abilities. Really the issue is my unfamiliarity with teaching math! Some of my students are highly skilled at math and quickly grasp the problems. Meanwhile others struggle and seem to lose the big picture of what we are trying to accomplish with the calculations. I have never had to do much math instruction before and I am struggling with all this explaining and re-explaining. A way for me to address this dilemma would be to reach out to the math teacher and ask him if he can share some strategies.
